Finding things to do when you have children isn’t always easy, especially now that many restaurants and venues just aren’t kid friendly – and some places will outright refuse entry to kids by default, even if your children are actually some of the well-behaved ones.
When travelling with kids, you might have to put a little more thought into where you go, especially if you want the experience to be fun for everyone there (including you!).
Here are some great things for you and the kids to do in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Little Gym of Lexington East
It’s vital for both parents and kids to stay active, healthy and happy – and part of the secret is finding some things that you can both do together at your own pace.
The Little Gym of Lexington East is perfect for parents who’d like a healthy, holistic exercising experience that incorporates learning, gymnastics, dance, sports skills and other forms of exercise, including yoga and karate.
They’ve got a schedule of regular events, and many different parties and camps that are organized for parents who’d like their kids to keep active – ideally, book ahead if you’d like to go.
They’re located at 3101 Richmond Road, Lexington and open until 5PM.
Just in case you’ve never heard of it before, Monkey Joe’s is a child-friendly chain that specializes in offering a fun and unforgettable experience for kids with interactive games, slides and even a full-blown arcade.
It’s aimed for kids between 2 and 12, with individual and age-appropriate play areas for children to enjoy – and the food isn’t half bad, either!
If you’d like to go to Monkey Joe’s, you can usually just stop by the venue and they’ll have a spot or two open, but during the busier times (especially for school breaks) you’ll want to call ahead just to be sure, especially with a group of kids.
Sky Zone is the most fun you can have with your kids and a trampoline – and it’s officially the number one biggest trampoline park in Lexington.
They offer a huge range of trampoline rooms for varying levels of difficulty, and most parents find themselves having just as much fun as the kids here.
They have special programs depending on age, including birthday parties, dodgeball or Toddler Time, advertised as a special experience that parents and children can experience together.
For parents, it’s even great for a regular workout – and it’s a lot more fun than your usual traditional gym. It’s a great place to spend a few minutes, or it’s a great place to spend a few hours. That’s up to you!
It’s located at 3644 Boston Road.
Champs Entertainment Complex
Champs Entertainment Complex is a huge amusement center based in 297 Ruccio Way, and it’s just as much fun for parents as it is for kids. They offer something for everyone, including laser tag and mini golf (which is what most people show up for!).
There’s also plenty more to experience at the Complex, including an arcade, skating rink and an arcade. Of course, there’s also a restaurant because you’re bound to get hungry along the way.
They also offer scheduling for larger events like birthday parties, and it’s usually best to call ahead and book your day’s schedule – especially for larger groups or busy times where you want to ensure your spot.
Lexington Public Library
Lexington Public Library is a great place to take your kids that many people might not have thought of first – but there’s more to do at the library than you might think!
Of course, the public library has a massive collection of books – including some rare titles that you’ll love digging through.
Their extensive book collection isn’t the only reason why they make a great stop for you and the kids: They also host many events, arts and unique crafts classes that can always teach you something new and cool – check their schedule to find out what will be hosted at the library next!
Horse Farm Tours
If you love horses and taking the scenic route, why not put these two passions together and take the kids for a great outing meeting the horses and spending a rare face to face experience with these majestic creatures?
It’s a great learning experience, and it’s a whole lot of fun – even for parents!
They’re experienced and friendly, and you’ll always leave happy once you’re back on your way home. It’s even a great place for a return trip if you happen to be in the area again.
The Explorium of Lexington
The Explorium of Lexington is a unique concept, and it’s a museum especially designed for children – and it’s something that all kids will love.
They focus on arts and science, and there are plenty of interactive exhibits and things to do; there are also plenty of demonstrations you can attend that’ll teach your kids (and you!) more about the background behind science.
Their whole idea is a hands-on learning experience that gets kids to learn while they’re having fun.
Again, it’s best to book your day ahead.
